O2′s Burning O2′s Buring, Fetch The iPhones Fetch The iPhones
Everything went wrong for O2 today. With the iPhone 3G launch being the biggest day in the little phone companies life, well almost, and for most customers everything went wrong. Claiming unprecedented amount of customers wishing to purchase an iPhone, most Carphone Warehouse and most O2 Stores had limited supply of iPhones with some Carphone warehouse stores stocking one lonely 16GB model.
The O2 stores had more than their partner in crime but still not sufficient supply for those in demand. I was in a Y10 business studies lesson the other day and we talked about supply and demand, “The More Demand, The More Supply You Need”. Is that such a difficult thing to master I mean really?
If you are going to be selling a phone with over 250,000 people registering an interest in the new device then why not provide as many phones as needed to the stores spread across the land. Admittedly some stores would sell out still but you wouldn’t be having the laborious process of having people trundle to your store to be thrown out and loathing your company. Apple, when you first released the iPhone in America how many of the 4GB versions did you sell? Not many? Why is that? Did you not learn a lesson from that? Clearly not.
The iPhone 3G was a disaster launch in many parts of the country. At my personal store we were not allowed to upgrade due to an evacuation at the upgrade call centre in Glasgow. This centre was a special upgrade centre for current O2 customers as apposed to those signing up with a new contract as this is a different ball game. This wouldn’t been as much as a problem if the O2 servers were up to the job of keeping up with the demand online.
As I am writing this iTunes is still telling me that 1.1.4 is the current iPhone release update. I am not happy.
I am iReady to kick some ass!
