Well it seems as though the Orange Country Sheriff’s Department has switched to the digital age and is now using podcasting to train its deputies. They are using this feature to train their personnel on high risk situations that could cause injury and have a high risk of injury. They are using Apple’s Podcast Producer, which is a part of OS X Leopard server, to deliver content to the outer limits of their coverage area for training. (more…)

Sebastian succeeds with Dropbox

Posted on Thursday, December 25, 2008 by | Add a comment

In the modern world most people have multipe machines that they work on (one at work, a home desktop and maybe a notebook). Trying to manage all of your files and folders can get very hard and complicated – for example; you’ve just finished creating the presentation for the CEO and you arrive at work but you forgot to email it to yourself.

Dropbox is the answer. Dropbox was started in 2007 and has a great and active community around it. Dropbox is a menu-bar app that syncs your stuff between multiple computers, from right inside the Finder. (more…)

What Will Got Done for Journalism: Mac VS PC

Posted on Sunday, December 21, 2008 by | 1 comment

I haven’t written a post in a while (I’d like to say it’s because I was Getting Things Done, but that’s just not true. That isn’t my strong suit), and I don’t really want to right now. It’s not you, it’s me. Holiday stuff, having a Mac suddenly not boot, and making dinner, that kind of thing. Luckily for you, I have a little something I wrote, like my last What Will Got Done, for Journalism, about Mac vs. PC. It’s definitely not my best work ever, but it’s here, so you might as well enjoy it
That said, let the enjoyment begin! (more…)

Sebastian Succeeds with Cruz

Posted on Sunday, December 14, 2008 by | 2 comments

Hi. I’m Sebastian and I’m a new blogger for IMP. I love free stuff and I haven’t paid for any software (other than iWork) on my Mac.

Up until a while ago, I was using Safari as my web browser of choice – mainly because it came pre-installed on my Macbook. I have recently switched to Cruz, a free browser from Todd Ditchendorf, the creator of Fluid.

Cruz is slick, fast and customisable, when you launch it for the first time it will look almost exactly like Safari. It”s when you go into the settings that you see the magic. You get some general settings like homepage etc. but one of the really cool things is the Appearance. There are 3 skins to choose from; Default (Grey), Mobile Me (olive) and HUD (black), I prefer HUD. You can also set the Spaces settings and even the window opacity. (more…)
