Sebastian Succeeds with LittleSnapper

There are many screenshot tools for Mac; Grab, Skitch and many more. I’ve settled on a great tool from Realmac Software (Developers of RapidWeaver). LittleSnapper was part of the MacHeist bundle, a collection of apps that has been beaten to death by numerus podcasts and blogs.

LittleSnapper revolutionizes screenshots. The way that you use LittleSnapper is simple; you either have it in your Menubar or in your dock. I have it in my Menubar because I hate having too many things in my dock (8 apps is the most I’ve ever had). By either clicking on a button or using a keyboard shortcut. There are 3 different types of screenshot; Fullscreen (self-explanatory), Window (Capture only a specific window) and Area (use crosshairs). Another way that you can capture sites is using the Websnapper – the built in browser that allows you to capture entire webpages or just specific DOM elements.

Once you’ve taken your snap you get the editor where you can mask, blur and annotate your screenshots. You can also tag, add a description, rate and enter more information about the snap. You can then sort your screenshots into collections and folders. The reason you would want to add extra information to your pictures would be for Smart Collections! Just like Smart Folders (in FInder) or Smart Mailboxes (in Mail), you can have very complex Smart Collections like: URL is http://impodcast.tv, Rating is *****, Date taken is today.

Once you have a few snaps, they will start to appear in your LittleSnapper “Library”. All of your screenshots are displayed in a very attractive grid view with large previews of the snaps. The snaps are scalable so you can see them all or just a few. Result: Bliss. With just a touch of a button you can have all of a screenshots’ information.

Now, what’s the point of taking screenshots if you can’t share them? Well, it just so happens that with LittleSnapper you can. Realmac Software has a free service called QuickSnapper that allows you to instantly upload your snaps right within LittleSnapper. This service is in beta, but it works great for me! You can also publish your snaps to FTP, SFTP and Flickr straight from LittleSnapper. Cool!

I haven’t found any problems with LittleSnapper that haven’t been human error (like “oops, maybe if I clicked the right button it would work!”) so while we can’t say that LittleSnapper is granny-proof it is pretty easy to use.

LittleSnapper retails for $39 (31€). Realmac Software has kindly donated a copy for us to give away to you lucky people! We hope that you enter. All you have to do is comment on this post saying what you would use it for by Monday 27 April and we will choose the person who we think deserves it the most. -Enjoy!

Ok, here are the rules: Say why you want LittleSnapper and make sure that you give a real email or else we won't be able to contact you.

Being in QnA, I would be using Little Snapper to snapshot and highlight bugs and share them with the developers. The ability to snap webpages would make it specially useful for my testing rquirements.

Well, I would use LittleSnapper in order to take lots of screenshots of my BRILLIANT godson Sebastian, when I talk to him on Skype. Because right now everytime I see him I just about fall over with how much he has changed. Just as well I'm sitting down right now.

I've been getting people addicted to mac software for quite sometime. I've handed away my licenses to Pixelmator, MacJournal, MacGourmet, RapidWeaver, and others over the last year to friends who have just become mac users. Yes – Little Snapper was part of Heist and I got it as part of Heist. But alas there are friends who did not so quickly jump upon the Mac bandwagon so quickly enough to share in the fun of Heist. While I'm a Snapper addict – I'd love to share and spread the wealth!!! – Is that possible?

    p.s. – By the way hun… April 28th is a Tuesday

  8. I'd like to use LittleSnapper to capture some of the best design elements and advanced features of popular websites. Examples would be lifestreams, OpenID integration, Twitter login in your comments, custom video player controls, etc.

They would be added to a collection, a gallery of sorts, to start building tutorials for them. If categorized via LittleSnappers tags, I could even allow people to cast a vote for which one gets priority on its chance for production.

The problem I have is that I see so many sites, and so many tutorials on things people really, really would like to have explained… but I loose track of them quickly.

Once I actually sit down to make one, I get a kind of writer's block where I can't figure out where to start, or what tutorial to make.

LittleSnapper would make it easier on me when it comes time for production, and better for end users because they're getting exactly what they want in a much shorter timeframe.

    Cool piece of software.

I would use it when writing up documents for college. Being a digital media student it would be a perfect way for me to show my tutors how I have gone about developing my projects. Being a massive fan of social media, I would use the share function to share my shots with you guys too!

So who won the contest? By the way I am typing this on my iPhone via the IMP app as a mini test that I’m doing with the application before it goes public in the App Store. It’s working out great thus far!
