Apparently it’s now a unspoken rule that all of our recurring segments have to use alliteration, unfortunately I drew the short straw and got stuck with the letter ‘K’. Very little apple-related starts with K, but then I realized that I can publish my own posts on this blog now, so I just thought of the most random thing I possibly could that starts with K. Turns out that’s Kumquats. The problem is that I have very little to say about kumquats. So the rest of this post will be very short, only lengthened by the fact that it’s entirely in binary:
No, no, don’t get too excited, I haven’t suddenly turned on everybody’s favorite fruit-inspired electronics company, this isn’t ANOTHER blog post ragging on the new iPod on the block, quite the opposite really, I mean, look how small it is, it’s so helpless, that thing can’t possibly stand up for itself. Over-personification aside (That was a really big word!)
Maybe a better title for this would have been “Keaton On: Other people on: the new iPod shuffle” or “Keaton’s response to everybody else’s response to the iPod Shuffle”, but frankly, any headline that implies anything anti-apple is the “Free Beer” of our generation (It makes people read things that they normally wouldn’t). It’s that time of year again where every blogger and their grandma’s dog’s cousin blogs about their predictions for Macworld. This year, as always, they all seemed to have reached the exact same conclusions, this year being details on Snow Leopard, a new Mac Mini, and maybe a new iMac or iLife. The problem here is that every one of them is attempting to be correct, guessing only the most predictable, plausible, and likely announcements.
That’s great, Mr. Future-NY-Times-Columnist, unfortunately, it’s boring to read the same boring things over and over again. Here is my list of new products apple could (but most likely won’t) be released in 2009, and why they might be good ideas. (more…)
This week I’m going back to something that, while not very geeky itself, is something that I, and many other geeks, have to deal with on the internet: People who sound stupid Intense orchestra hit. Okay, so it’s not a very big deal, who really cares, I mean, It’s their loss, not mine, so I’m disguising this whole angry rant as some ‘helpful tips’, let’s call it, “How to not be a dummy for dummies”. Keaton On: Web Development (and Joe the Plumber)
Two weeks ago I did a rant about how much I hated Xcode, but in the last 2 weeks I’ve finally managed to figure it out. Of course, being my easily distracted self, while learning Xcode I’ve also decided to try my hand at coding a website. So, now all of my anger at Xcode has found a new target: Web Development.
Apparently, me being a geek (or, maybe just an American) means that I get really mad at things that are too hard. Sure, it’s sounds kinda petty and childish, but really, is there any reason this stuff has to be so complicated? Not really, hence the problem, hence the anger, hence the blog post, hence the lengthy comments (sorry, I kinda forgot where I was going with that). (more…)
Lots of crazy things from Asia have been coming to the US lately. Smaller cars, Toilets that clean and warm your butt, and that very very strange show Hole in the Wall to name a few. One other thing that is making it’s way west isn’t as good: Knockoffs *Queue the scary music*. Engadget has a recurring blog series called “Keepin’ it real fake” which features all of the hilariously awful knockoffs people have spotted around the world (although, to be fair, or unfair as the case may be, it’s mostly from China).
We sit there and wonder how anybody could ever fall for those terrible knockoffs that probably barely work, then rush out to the Sprint store to pick up our ‘brand new’ Instinct or Bold or Xpressmusic or Xperia or G1 or Voyager or whatever else they’re churning out.
(more…)I, Keaton Brant, am proud to announce that I have finally finished a project that I have been working on for months. It’s been a tough road, I’ve had to devote many hours a day just to ponder the hugeness of this task, but I have finally done it. Yes, I have done what many have tried and failed to do, I have made a “Hello World” app in Xcode!
