I am pleased to announce that after several weeks of development, a month or two of beta testing, and another month of sitting on my rear, doing nothing, IMP for iPhone has been submitted to the App Store and is in review. We’re hoping that we can get this approved as quickly as possible to get it out to you people. So, keep your eyes peeled, and we’ll even let you know when it’s out.

IMP for iPhone

We are happy to announce the IMP iPhone App! …Sorta. We are now accepting people for an open beta so we can iron out bugs before it goes public in the App Store.

How to Apply: Send an email to beta AT impodcast DOT tv with your device UUID and your name. We’ll email you back with a beta version of the app, and instructions on how to get the application installed on your device.

Due to restrictions, however, we can only accept a few into the beta for now. The first twenty people or so we hear from will be accepted, but no more. There is a possibility that we may accept more in the future, but that is not guaranteed, so don’t hold out for it.

For those that don’t get into the beta, check out these fresh screenshots we have straight from the app.

Keaton’s Kumquats

Apparently it’s now a unspoken rule that all of our recurring segments have to use alliteration, unfortunately I drew the short straw and got stuck with the letter ‘K’. Very little apple-related starts with K, but then I realized that I can publish my own posts on this blog now, so I just thought of the most random thing I possibly could that starts with K. Turns out that’s Kumquats. The problem is that I have very little to say about kumquats. So the rest of this post will be very short, only lengthened by the fact that it’s entirely in binary:

Competition: Whitex 2 Beta

I don’t think that IMP has had any competitions so I thought that I would get Blue Pyjama to donate something.

From the Blue Pyjama website:

We are really excited because Whitex 2.0 will be out soon. The current version of Whitex is very simple and lacks many features. Whitex 2.0 gives you so much more; fonts, sizes, saving and opening documents etc.

Blue Pyjama has kindly given IMP 3 beta copies to give away to you nice people. It’s really simple to win, you just have to answer the question: Which city is Blue Pyjama based in? Email your answer to competition@bluepyjama.com

The competition will be open until the 28 of March 2009 on which day the 3 winners will be drawn randomly.

If you are having trouble finding the answer look on the Blue Pyjama website!

If you’re in the US, and reading this in time to take advantage of it, let me congratulate you on being very dedicated to your RSS feeds. It is clear that you really deserve what I am about to reveal.

So what am I babbling about? One simple word: 1Password. Here’s another to get you excited: free. Now, here are some about the offer’s limitations: Thanksgiving day only.

You only need two things, besides the 1Password free trial. A Mac, which you almost certainly have, and a friend with a licensed copy of 1Password who has not already given away their free licenses. (more…)

The Apple DNS Saga Continues

Yesterday Apple released security update 2008-005 which was supposed to fix the DNS flaw I recently complained about Apple not having fixed yet. Well, it appears that Apple only half-fixed the problem. Yes, they have fixed the BIND DNS server in OS X, but in reality that only protects X-Serves running a DNS server. Sure, regular OS X ships with the BIND DNS server installed, but it’s not on by default, and almost no one turns it on. What we all use all the time is the stub resolver that’s part of OS X, and that’s what Apple didn’t fix. This means that regular Mac users are still not protected from this DNS flaw while just about everyone else is.
