The folks over at Realmac Software have just launched a new version of LittleSnapper (#1.5).

If you don’t already know, LittleSnapper is a great little app that makes it really easy to snap, and organise screenshots. It’s especially appealing to web designers like me that want to keep a collection of inspirational website elements, etc.

Simply Tasks, with SimpleTask

Edit: I neglected to mention that SimpleTask Mac is in Beta, and coming out of it as soon as Apple approves SimpleTask iPhone. Also, I previously stated that SimpleTask iPhone would be free, but it will be $1.99.

You may have noticed, although probably not, that I deliberately avoided the words “Getting,” “Things,” and “Done” in the title of this review. There is a reason for this. SimpleTask is not a comprehensive GTD app. GTD has a specific meaning with specific criteria, although it has drifted away somewhat from referring to David Allen’s book. There are at least two categories of task lists, and the one most people think of is the more complex one, which involves dates and priorities and tags and contexts and such. The other one that springs to mind less often is just a list, with checkboxes and titles. SimpleTask falls into this category.

Another category it falls into is the Delicious Generation. There are many interpretations of this concept, but I like mine the best. A delicious app is one which uses nonstandard GUI to great advantage. The most famous example is Delicious Library, which departs from the standard Finder-like way of presenting large groups of items, and uses the idea of a bookshelf. Others that fit in to this category are iVolume, The Hit List, Disco, QuickPost, Tweetie, and many more. SimpleTask succeeds with this model, which makes it a pleasure to use. (more…)

IMG_0004.PNGFrom the development studio that brought us, Glyder.  In Deer Hunter 3D, you play an unnamed player, who can hunt in three areas, using six different weapons, not to mention the four different difficulties.  Between the intense game play and the cool “How did I actually kill this animal?” feature, this game is worth the $4.99. CheckUp, from App4Mac,  is an application I have been using for some time now. It has really helped me in controlling my core temperature, disk speed and memory usage. With its powerful Growl notification integration you can really know and understand very easily what is happening inside of your Mac. In this review I will look at this application section by section.

1Password to Rule Them All

1Password is All You Need

In this post not only am I going to tell you all about this amazing application, I’m giving you a chance to win 1 of 2 copies, kindly donated by the amazing folks over at Agile Web Solutions.

So, you have about a dozen email accounts, a list of forums longer than your arm, your online banking, all those must have members only sites and just about every other website under the sun that in some way wants you to remember some form of authentication to get through the gates. The simple, and by far the most insecure, way of handling this would be to have a single password to all these sites, even worse it’s a dictionary password or something so obvious even a dog could guess it (yes that’s right Beiju, I do mean you!)

So, the best way to handle all those logins is to have multiple passwords, all über secure and all so hard to remember you’ll have to reset your password on said site every time you visit, well that’s where 1Password from Agile Web Solutions comes in.

Keaton’s Cocoa Twitter Client Showdown!

Cocoa is my girlfriend. That is a phrase coined by the popular cocoa blog of the same name, and it rings sadly true for me, both as a developer of mac apps, and more importantly as an avid user of mac apps.

Somehow things like Adobe Air, X11, and even Apple’s own Carbon give me flashbacks to my time on Windows. Up until a few weeks ago I was using Twitterific as my main twitter client, unfortunately for it, it took its own concept of simplicity too far.

Also, it doesn’t look all that cocoa-ish, especially in Leopard, where HUD windows are supposed to have a glossy looking header. So then I was a rogue twitterer, on a hunt for some good Cocoa twitter clients. I found 5 contenders – here and now they will battle it out for my usership. ding ding

I stayed up all night Wednesday to listen to the VexedTech podcast with @iGerard and @psimac. Their show is kind of a Cranky Geeks idea where they vent their spleen about thinks tech that vexed them this week.

I shall be a guest on the show next Wednesday representing IMP.

They also have a picks section and iGerard picked an iPhone game which I downloaded and have been hooked on ever since. The game is called Flight Control.

You have to guide the planes and helicopters to their correct landing strips without having any of them collide. Very addictive. The graphics are very eye catching but the one thing that is slightly disturbing is the applause you get when you get a high score. I assume they are applauding my high score and not the fact I caused 2 or more planes to crash, which is why the game ends :-)

iGerard said that we could post our high scores (he has only managed 42 so far) on their blog, but so far there is no update to allow this on their site. So I thought maybe it’s a good idea to do it here. So if you have Flight Control post your high scores in the comments so we can see how good you are at air traffic control. No prizes just the kudos and giving us a target to beat

My High Score as of this post is 66.
