Wow, I really hope I am not making a habit out of this whole blogging thing, but the people of the tech world are just making me so angry at their stupidity, that I just have to enlighten them. Today, I am referring to the iPhone 3G to 3GS upgrade cost, and AT&T’s recent cave.

*Note: In this article, I will refer to AT&T, but most of this information is applicable to any carrier*

Let’s start with the basics. The original iPhone was an unsubsidized phone. That means that you paid the entire cost of the phone, and AT&T paid Apple a certain amount over the life of the contract, and that is how Apple made a good chunk of their money. When you terminate a contract on an unsubsidized phone, AT&T only loses the amount that you were paying them for the service, which to them is all profit. So you paid for the service, and when you terminate the contract, you don’t get any more service, so AT&T doesn’t lose anything. (more…)

This Week’s Panel : Bart Busschots, Stu Helm, Rob Hanson, Michael King, Nick Balaz, Nick McGuire, Lewis King.

We’d like to warmly welcome back Michael King from his ‘fun’ with hurricane Ike and to introduce you to the latest IMP team member, our second Canadian, Nick (yes that’s right another one) McGuire.

We discuss all that’s going on in the Apple world, have a good old rant about what Apple are playing at with the App Store and generally tear the news to shreds.

Sorry for the long show, but you know what we’re like when we get on a point! Oh, before we forget, take a look at our new ScreenCasts Online affiliate link, our friend Don McAllister does a great job of this weekly screencast show, well worth the money, if you want to sign up please use the following link.

Sadly this week’s show was not actually live, due to some serious server issues over at TalkShoe, so Stu, Lewis, Chris and Bart hopped on Skype to record the episode. It did feel weird not having our audience but we muddled through.

As you’ll hear we had some audio issues this week, Garageband crashed on me during the recording so we had to use one of the panel’s skype recordings!

Hope you enjoy the show, links for this episode can be found on our delicious tag

First of all, I’d like to say a massive sorry for the late release of this show. My excuse is simple, I’ve been ill this week and also had some problems encoding the file, which were rather frustrating.

This week’s panel consists of Stu Helm, Lewis King, Rob Hanson, Bart Busschots and Aaron Dyer. We mostly talk about what made the launch of the iPhone 3G a raving disaster in the UK and US and talk about some of the new apps available for iPhone / iPod Touch owners in the App Store

Everything went wrong for O2 today. With the iPhone 3G launch being the biggest day in the little phone companies life, well almost, and for most customers everything went wrong. Claiming unprecedented amount of customers wishing to purchase an iPhone, most Carphone Warehouse and most O2 Stores had limited supply of iPhones with some Carphone warehouse stores stocking one lonely 16GB model.
