No, no, don’t get too excited, I haven’t suddenly turned on everybody’s favorite fruit-inspired electronics company, this isn’t ANOTHER blog post ragging on the new iPod on the block, quite the opposite really, I mean, look how small it is, it’s so helpless, that thing can’t possibly stand up for itself. Over-personification aside (That was a really big word!)
Maybe a better title for this would have been “Keaton On: Other people on: the new iPod shuffle” or “Keaton’s response to everybody else’s response to the iPod Shuffle”, but frankly, any headline that implies anything anti-apple is the “Free Beer” of our generation (It makes people read things that they normally wouldn’t). Remote is a simple application from Apple for your iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to remotely control your iTunes library on your Mac or PC from your device.
Upon launching the application for the first time, you are greeted with a screen asking you to choose an iTunes library. The process is simple. You are assigned a passcode that you need to enter in your iTunes library. Once it’s been verified, you’re all set.
Now you’re ready to use the application. It’s laid out in the same way as the iPod application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. You have it all divided up into sections: Playlists, Artists, Albums, and more, along with a new feature: Search.
From there, you can control all of iTunes. You can play songs, movies, podcasts, and audiobooks. Then, once you’ve got one playing, you can create playlists, adjust the volume, or change other options: you have complete control.
Apple has really hit the nail on the head with this app. It is available as a free download from the App Store in iTunes or on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

This week’s panel : Stu Helm, Bart Busschots, Connor Jackson, Rob Hanson, Keaton Brant and returning guest Paul Shadwell
The episode was going to be called ‘Bart’s Cat Gets Neutered’ but Keaton Brant suggested not to use that ‘Cause the cat neutering one makes my balls hurt!’ (Sorry Keaton, that was too good not to use!)
We’d like to hear from you for a new ‘Listener Feedback’ show so send your email / audio clips to

First of all we’d like to apologise to everyone who tried to listen live this week. As you know we’ve left the TalkShoe service due to quality and other issues, however our new solution with Stickam didn’t work out as well as we hoped due to bandwidth issues with Stu’s broadband (should be fixed soon). We are trying to resolve these issues to get a great live experience for you all.
With the largest IMP Live panel we’ve ever had we tackled this week’s Apple news head on!
Remember folks, next week is IMP Live @ Leeds, so there will be no Friday live show. If you can make the live event we’d love to see you there.

RealNetworks said Monday it’s switching gears in its quest for a larger slice of the legal music download market with the launch a DRM-free a la carte MP3 store that will cater to iPod owners directly rather than through unauthorized hacks of the past.
This move represents a new direction for this Seattle based firm. This online music company has been built around subscription based services. This offers subscribers temporary access to an unlimited number of copy-protected songs each month for a set price. (more…)
